Crew HQ - The Yachting Industry Website & Database

The Business Need

Crew HQ website needed a digital system that would replace the current yachting industry agency. A website that would make it possible for any member to access and hire other members for yachting industry jobs.

The Superyacht Industry is a prestigious place and crew are used to working with agencies to find them new jobs onboard. So Crew HQ required a system that would be easy to use, enable job seeking crew to register, upload their CVs and apply for jobs. Recruiters and captains in the yachting industry are also inundated with job applicants so the new website needed to enable them to post jobs as well as receive applications or simply use a search and filtering system to enable them to find the right person for the job and to hire them directly.

In addition to the management of multiple content types, jobs, events, news and user profiles the new website was required to manage a membership subscription system which would enable users to upgrade at any time to make credit card payments and to then access additional features, content and user profile information which would facilitate the direct recruitment functionality.

Our Solution

Our solution was to create a new model for online recruitment. We imagined that users should only create and manage a single application profile and whenever they apply for a job they are simply sharing their profile with the recruiter. Crew HQ is built to provide a headhunting solution and any Professional member will be able to browse and contact any listed crew member on the website. we protect the members content and contact information via a membership program which only grants access to paying members. In this way, we reduce the number of spam messages that would be sent to any applicant while providing them with a simple online recruitment system with easy access to contact information and yachting industry resources. By tracking the careers of our users we are able to present them with suitable resources as they progress in the industry.

The Technology We Used

We decided that an open source solution was the best way forward and built the new Crew HQ website using Drupal 7. The website was built using a mobile-first approach and it has a custom theme which is built for speed and accessibility.

The project includes a directory system with faceted search, a news and content management system, member profiles, job listings, job applications and associated notifications, MailChimp, Google, Facebook and Mailgun integration as well as member management, credit card processing, subscription management and online sales.
